Worldsong
This lovely choir will be performing with UMCM on 22nd June at 4.15 in St. John the Baptist’s Church, Coventry. Looking forward to this very much.
Godiva Award!
We would like to congratulate our own Lizzie Perring for being nominated for a Godiva Award! Lizzie has worked tirelessly for many years on empowering people to discover their inner singer and to incorporate singing into healing and recovery.
Piano recital at St John’s
Our friends at St John the Baptist church, Fleet Street, Coventry are hosting a piano recital by Jill Crossland on Saturday May 11 at 7pm. Admission is £5 and there are refreshments. Jill gave a recital last year on the loan piano to great success and received wonderful reviews. This year she plays on the original Bechstein piano which was restored so beautifully last June.
Singing In Harmony
UMCM presents Singing In Harmony, a short workshop aimed at inexperienced singers to give you a taste of singing in harmony. No experience needed and no need to be able to read music. No preparation – you will be taught everything you need on the day, and you don’t have to be a “singer”.
It’s followed by a Bring and Share party which everyone is welcome to. Please contact UMCM if you would like to attend the singing, the party or both.
Synaesthesia Association
Next year we hope to combine once more with James Wannerton from the UK Synaesthesia Association. Last time we worked with them was for Music of the Senses, including a very interesting talk and discussion on synaesthesia, an art display and a concert as part of the Earlsdon Festival.
Peace and Reconciliation Event
We’re planning a Peace and Reconciliation event at Earlsdon Methodist Church on Saturday 12 October. The event is shaping up nicely, in fact we are really excited about it and talking to churches and organisations regarding the format and programme. Details will be released as soon as they are confirmed.
Feedback please!
Lizzie has had some really interesting feedback on what it means to perform with UMCM and we would love to hear more from performers especially on how performing at our events has helped you to overcome or cope with fear etc. This can be anonymous but will help us when applying for funding and will enhance the perception of UMCM in Coventry.
Please don’t be backward in coming forward to express whatever you feel could be helpful. Thank you!
Midsummer Festival
Our Midsummer Festival is really starting to take shape! Remember it’s on June 22 and it’s an all-dayer with many talented artists in the church and cafe, including the Worldsong choir and many UMCMers, and a concert in the evening. We’re delighted that pianist Antoine Mitchell will be performing a recital in the evening concert.

The event takes place at Earlsdon Park Village on Saturday 23 March at 7pm, and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landings (was it really that long ago?) including songs and pieces about the moon and stars. Tickets are £8 full price and £5 for residents.
Accompanist sought: apply within!
UMCM are looking for an accompanist who shares our core values. Some payment will be available. See the attached poster for full details. Please contact UMCM if you think you might be interested or just to know more.
Valentine’s Day Tea Party
UMCM’s programme of events starts early this year with a Valentine’s Day Tea Party in the Church Room at St John Fisher Church, Tiverton Road, Coventry CV2 3DL.
We look forward to an afternoon of pleasant music with, we’re sure, a hint of romance, and who knows, we might even find love! But if not, we will at least find tea, cake and good company, and we can take comfort in the knowledge that as well as being the patron saint of courtly love, St Valentine is also the patron saint of beekeepers and protects against plague.
